The robots are leaving the factories, will we be ready?

As part of the project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme, Inclusive Robotics for a Better Society (INBOTS), the Institute of Philosophy of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has coordinated the production of this documentary film that addresses the main challenges facing both users and developers.

To make this documentary film, the Institute of Philosophy of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) analyzed the researchs on internet search engines related with robotics in order to learn more about whitch are the main worries of people in relation with these new technologies which are each day more present in our lifes. The results of this research are shown on the following clouds of concepts categorized by main issues:

Robots are leaving factories and laboratories and are more and more present in different environments (at home, in schools, in hospitals, on the roads, etc.). This documentary shows the evolution from industrial robotics (robots isolated in factories or laboratories) to interactive robotics (robots that cooperate directly with humans). Through the exhibition of some of the technical advances that have favoured this development, such as artificial intelligence or the study of human-robot interaction, it aims to show both the technical and scientific challenges and the social implications of implementing a type of technology that will radically transform our lives. This documentary aims to give visibility to the real possibilities of interactive robotics through a conversation with more than 30 specialists in multiple areas of knowledge (engineering, mathematics, philosophy, sociology, law, etc.) who, from different perspectives (university, research and business), work together to take advantage of the opportunities and neutralize the risks of these technologies.
